It might still feel like winter in Worcester, but baseball season’s already knocking. The Worcester Red Sox are inviting fans back to Polar Park for their 6th annual Open House on Saturday, March 14, with free admission, good food, and plenty of Worcester flavor from noon to 3 p.m.
The family-friendly event gives fans a chance to see the park before the WooSox kick off their 5th anniversary season on March 27. Admission is free, but folks are encouraged to grab digital tickets ahead of time at woosox.com. Each ticket comes with $5 in loaded value good for food and beverages, plus everyone gets a free Table Talk Pie, because of course — it’s Pi Day (3/14) in the birthplace of those famous mini pies.
Fans who prefer old-school tickets can pick them up at the box office at 100 Madison Street on the day of the event. All four gates and the WooSox Team Store open at noon, and concession favorites like George’s Coney Island, Wonder Bar Pizza, and Broadway Restaurant will be serving up ballpark staples.
It’s not just about food and freebies, though. At 1:05 p.m., the videoboard inside Polar Park will broadcast the “Futures at Fenway South” game from Red Sox spring training, featuring Boston’s top prospects. Fans can also take a few swings in the WooCages, where the pros normally warm up, or try out a few of the games around the concourse. The WooSox mascots — Smiley Ball, Woofster the WonderDog, Roberto the Rocket, and Clara the Heart of the Commonwealth — will be on hand to snap photos and sign autographs.
Members of the WooSox Rewards program (presented by Verizon) get an extra perk: another $5 in loaded value if they check in on site. New members can sign up for free at woosoxrewards.com.
The Open House also includes a meaningful community event. The WooSox Foundation will host its second annual “Art in the Park” fundraiser, celebrating local artists with Down syndrome in the DCU Club from noon to 3 p.m. The show features work by Tucker Collins, Jordan Caira, and Chris May, with proceeds benefiting nonprofits that support awareness and opportunities for people with Down syndrome — timed to honor World Down Syndrome Day on March 21.
As a bonus, fans can check out the newly renovated Hanover Deck, debuting its brand-new canopy just in time for Opening Day.
Parking is available at meters along Green Island Boulevard or nearby garages like Worcester Common, Union Station, and those across from the stadium.
The WooSox’ Opening Day is set for Friday, March 27 at 4:05 p.m., when they’ll take on the Syracuse Mets. Red Sox legend Roger Clemens is scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch to fellow Sox great Rich Gedman, celebrating the 40th anniversary of Clemens’ first 20-strikeout game and their 1986 AL Championship season. Fans can meet “The Rocket” for a quick handshake and photo in Sherwood’s Diner during the game, followed by “Music of the Red Sox” UniBank Fireworks.
Tickets for Opening Day start at just $5 and are available now at woosox.com.
