Those participating in the 130th Boston Marathon will receive a newly designed medal when they cross the finish line on Boylston Street this April.

According to a NewsCenter 5 report, the new design features the race's unicorn logo inside an outer ring. The year 2026 appears to the left of the unicorn's mane, while "130th Boston Marathon" and "Boston Athletic Association" will be featured around the outer ring.

On the reverse side, the medal is stamped with the date of this year's marathon, April 20, 2026.

The medals are being created by North Attleborough-based Ashworth Awards.

The Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) explained that the medal was made of gold to celebrate 130 years of racing in Boston. It will hang from a blue and gold ribbon, which also honors the 130th running of the historic race from Hopkinton to Back Bay.

According to a B.A.A. news release, this year, the field of qualifiers accepted into the Boston Marathon consisted of those who were four minutes, 34 seconds (4:34) or faster than the qualifying time for their age group and gender. A total of 24,362 qualified applicants have been accepted to date or are in the process of being accepted, pending final verification of their qualifying performance.
