A South Boston sports bar staple is about to shutter its doors later this month in preparation for a new dining and entertainment hub.
In an Instagram post on Monday, March 2, Stats Bar & Grille announced it will close on Sunday, March 29, after 16 years of operations.
“As we turned the page to March this weekend, we wanted to officially share the news that at the end of this month, we will be closing our doors here at Stats,” the post read. “With the help of everyone that has danced on a chair, dropped a shot glass, or stumbled up the stairs, we've run this building into the ground over the past 16 years.
“We've been through a lot: 16 years is a long time,” it continued. “Stats went from being a shot in the dark in a hidden gem of a neighborhood to a brand in itself at the center of what is now considered the greatest place to be in Boston.”
The post also noted the current Stats “will be knocked down this spring to make way for a bigger and better version coming sometime in the future.”
A new Stats could be in operation by the 2027 NFL season, according to the Instagram post. The bar's popular Sunday Fundays are also expected to return “with a twist.”
According to a MassLive report, Stats first opened in 2010 at 77 Dorchester St. in South Boston. The bar and restaurant is a sought-after spot for Southies for dinner, weekend brunch, and after-work drinks. The sports bar has welcomed guests for hundreds of sporting events, watch parties, St. Patrick's Day Parades, and fundraisers over the years.
