Fourteen hospitals have made the list of the world's top hospitals, according to Newsweek and Statista.
The media outlet and the statistics reporting firm partnered to study more than 2,500 hospitals, focusing on the top 250 institutions worldwide.
Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston ranked fifth. Mayo Clinic-Rochester in Minnesota, Toronto General Hospital-University Health Network in Toronto, Cleveland Clinic, and Karolinska Universitetssjukhuset in Stockholm were among the top hospitals in the Newsweek and Statista rankings.
Brigham and Women's Hospital ranked 18th overall. Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center earned the No. 112 spot, and Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital ranked No. 250.
The following 10 Massachusetts hospitals also appeared on the list:

- Boston Medical Center
- Brown University Health-Saint Anne's Hospital in Fall River
- Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington
- Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newtown
- Salem Hospital
- Southcoast Health-Charton Memorial Hospital in Fall River
- Tufts Medical Center in Boston
- UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester
According to a Boston.com report about the rankings, the list ranked the best hospitals in 32 countries. These hospitals were selected based on comparability factors such as standard of living, life expectancy, population size, number of hospitals, and data availability. Newsweek and Statista consulted several data sources to secure the rankings, including publicly available quality metrics, patient experience surveys from public data, and the implementation status of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures.
