Fitchburg, Haverhill, Lowell, and Newburyport/Rockport Lines
The MBTA will perform work on select weekends this month as part of the North Station Terminal Area Signal System Improvement Project, impacting all Northside Commuter Rail lines. This project is replacing the obsolete signal system that controls the movement of MBTA Commuter Rail and Amtrak trains in and out of North Station with a state-of-the-art microprocessor system designed to reduce failures and train delays.
The following service suspensions will take place during the weekend of Feb. 28 through March 1:
- Fitchburg Line service will be suspended between North Station and Porter.
- Haverhill Line service will be suspended between North Station and Oak Grove.
- Lowell Line service will be suspended between North Station and Anderson/Woburn.
- Newburyport/Rockport Line service will be suspended between North Station and Swampscott.
Needham Line
MassDOT will perform work this month as part of the West Roxbury Parkway Bridge Replacement project. This work will replace the bridge that carries the West Roxbury Parkway over the Needham Line.
The Needham Line service will be suspended between Needham Heights and South Station. This work will take place during the weekend of Feb. 21 and 22.
Orange Line
The MBTA will continue signal upgrades and modernization work on the Orange Line this month.
- Orange Line service will be suspended between Jackson Square and Forest Hills for three days, Saturday through Monday, Feb. 14–16.
- Orange Line service will be suspended between Back Bay and Forest Hills for nine days, Feb. 28 through March 8.
