Circa Vintage, a clothing boutique at 204 Court St. in New Bedford, has been named among The New York Times' list of the top 50 best clothing stores in the United States.

In its nearly 40 years in business, the shop has become a local favorite and has helped cultivate New Bedford's retro fashion scene by fostering a connected community around vintage culture.

Circa offers a wide range of vintage American clothing spanning multiple decades, from Zoot suits and Pendleton coats to Victorian lingerie and 1940s letterman jackets. The setting for Circa is a restored 1920s factory that features 7,000 square feet of vintage clothing spanning 1880-1990.

According to its website, the shop's "fashion archaeologist" and owner, Chris Duval, was inspired to pursue vintage when he discovered fashion icon Bobby Garnett's Provincetown store, Strutters, in 1974. Since then, Chris has made a living by seeking out and preserving fashion from decades past.

For questions about the vintage clothing available at Circa, call Duval at 508-997-9390.
