Somerville has launched its 2025-2026 Teen Snow Shoveling Program. The initiative pairs teens with senior homeowners and homeowners with disabilities for paid shoveling assistance after snowstorms.
Teens ages 14 to 19 can apply to be paid for their shoveling work. Individuals ages 18 to 19 years old must submit a CORI form. Once they're registered, youth participants will be assigned to homeowners for the season and contacted after each storm.
Residents seeking snow shoveling assistance must submit an application and a CORI form by Jan. 1, 2026, and appear in person at the Somerville Council on Aging's Holland Street Center, at 167 Holland St., with a government-issued photo ID.
According to a Somerville Times report, service fees for the 2025-2026 season are as follows:
- Sidewalk and steps: $25
- Driveway (one spot): $25
- Corner lots: $60
Payment is negotiated directly between homeowners and the shoveler.
Residents should note that driveway shoveling covers only the driveway surface. Removing snow from vehicles is the owner's responsibility. No snow blowers are permitted for teens.
For more information or application assistance, residents can visit the Somerville website, contact Daniel Harris at 617-625-6600, ext. 2406, or by email. Individuals can also use the One Call to City Hall by phone at 617-666-3311, email, text, mobile app, chat, and social media, or by visiting somervillema.gov/311.
