Rhode Island has made its return to the screen as a Christmas destination thanks to some Hallmark Channel movie magic.

A new movie entitled A Newport Christmas premiered on Nov. 2 as part of the channel's "Countdown to Christmas" celebration. According to The Providence JournalA Newport Christmas is the first time a Hallmark holiday movie has been set in Rhode Island since A Season for Miracles debuted in 1999.

The holiday-time-travel romance follows Ella, a 1905 Newport socialite who wishes for a different life and wakes up in 2025, where she meets Nick, a Newport historian and sailor, and their romance bridges eras.

Ginna Claire Mason plays Ella and Wes Brown portrays Nick. Mason is known from previous Hallmark titles and Broadway, and Brown is recognized for Hallmark projects and TV roles in productions such as True Blood.

People reported that the film was filmed partially in Newport (Buffalo, New York, was the secondary location). Joie Botkin wrote the script, with Andrew Gernhard serving as executive producer.

According to a Parade magazine report, A Newport Christmas will re-air on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 10 p.m. Eastern
  • Saturday, Nov. 8, at 10 p.m. Eastern
  • Wednesday, Nov. 12, at 8 p.m. Eastern
  • Saturday, Nov. 29, at midnight Eastern

The movie is also available to stream exclusively on Hallmark Channel+.
