Boston is gearing up for a series of community events within the next several weeks, all of which are expected to impact traffic and parking throughout the city.

An Open House in Dorchester's Meetinghouse Hill on Saturday, Oct. 11, part of Fire Prevention Week, will feature parking restrictions on Winter Street and Parish Street.

The East Boston Y 5K scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26, will attract many participants and will result in street closures along the 5K route.

Amid these special events, the city is also making infrastructure improvements that are expected to impact traffic.

The Newmarket Square roadwork and the Canterbury Street Bridge closure, which has been in place since Sept. 12, have resulted in detours for vehicles but accessible pedestrian paths. Recent improvements to Massachusetts Avenue between Theodore Glynn Way and Magazine Street also aim to enhance bike infrastructure safety.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to check the city's official traffic advisory for updates on street closures, detours, and parking restrictions related to these events.
