The North Shore communities of Beverly, Danvers, Peabody, and Salem have collectively received nearly $200,000 in public safety and traffic grants as part of the Municipal Road Safety Grant Program.

This program allocates federal funds to support police efforts in improving traffic safety through enforcement, equipment, and innovative traffic safety initiatives.

Each city or town received between approximately $41,000 and $55,000. The breakdowns are as follows:

  • Beverly: $54,850
  • Danvers: $41,348
  • Peabody: $52,587
  • Salem: $41,355

The goal of these grants is to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, fatalities, and economic costs by boosting enforcement and implementing new safety strategies.

"Traffic safety is critical to any police department in any community, and it is critical that our departments have the resources they need to find novel and effective approaches to traffic safety," State Sen. Joan Lovely (D-Salem) said in a statement shared with the Patch of Beverly. "I am pleased that these critical funds have been made available to our communities."
