With the arrival of fall, there's no better time to explore Rhode Island. Discover several activities you can take part in during the month of October.
Ghost Tours
What would fall be without some ghostly lore to send shivers down your spine? Providence Ghost Tours offer nighttime walks through historic neighborhoods like College Hill and Benefit Street, focusing on local history and ghost stories. Be sure to wear a comfortable pair of walking shoes to fully explore the hills and streets of Providence. Don't forget your camera!
Tours run approximately 90 minutes and are available daily at 7 p.m. The cost is $27 for adults, $15 for children 13 and younger, and $25 for members of the military and older adults. Book your reservation online.
Weekend Goat Hikes at Gather Farm
Gather Farm in Johnston is hosting goat hikes from Friday through Sunday throughout October. The interactive outdoor experience allows visitors to explore fields and forests alongside a herd of goats.
Goat hikes will start with meeting the herd at the goat greenhouse and then will traverse around the fields and through the forest as Aidan Simmons of Gather Farm shares the history of her farming, the story of her goats, and some goat facts.
The route of the hike is on flat grass paths through the fields. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes and warm hiking attire are recommended. The hike runs approximately 1 hour and is held at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Each participant will select either a “Hike Only” ticket to enjoy the walk among the goats or a “Goat Hike” ticket (ages 10 and older) where you have the option to walk a goat on a leash for the duration of the hike.
'From Here to Where'
From Here to Where is a multimedia performance by Umberto Crenca and the Gillen Street Ensemble at the Wilbury Theatre Group. The event lends music, dance, projections, and videos to create a politically and socially charged spectacle.
According to the Wilbury Theatre Group's website, the event is "part lyrical sermon, part political exorcism, and part late-night jam session."
Performances will run through Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Wilbury Group Theatre, 475 Valley St. in Providence. Tickets are pay what you can, with suggested donations as follows: standard admission ($38), community partner ($55), budget-friendly ($18), and access for all ($10).
