There has been a steady rise in colon cancer the past decade especially with people under 50, but now there are studies that suggest you eat this for breakfast to help prevent it. The good news, it is a food that tastes great and is very versatile.

My wife and daughter have begun starting their days with a bowl of Greek yogurt mixed with blueberries, strawberries, bananas and topped with a honey granola mix. They eat it because they know it's good for them plus it is a great way to eat breakfast and get lots of fruits and proteins in your system

What they don't know is, that eating yogurt daily has tons of benefits for you that you may not be aware of. First here's what makes Greek yogurt different according to Prevention magazine online:

Compared to conventional American-style yogurt, Greek yogurt goes through an extra straining process to remove the whey, a liquid that contains lactose. Because lactose is a natural sugar, plain Greek yogurt is lower in sugar than plain American-style yogurt, and removing the whey produces a thicker, creamier yogurt with a tart taste.

Here are some benefits of eating Greek yogurt

Great for bone health

Aids healthy gut microbiome

May reduce risk of Type 2 Diabetes

Could help lower cholesterol

May help support healthy weight management

Here's another reason you should consider having a daily bowl of Greek yogurt according to a recent study from Harvard University found that people who eat at least two servings of yogurt a week could lower their risk of colon cancer caused by bacteria by 20 per cent.

The study says oats, which are wholegrain, are an excellent source of fiber, and which like calcium, has been shown to safeguard against colon cancer.

The oats contain lots of fiber and keep you full, which has the added effect of clearing out the colon and feeding the 'good' bacteria.

Fiber is broken down by the body's gut microbiota - the ecosystem of bacteria, fungi and viruses - through a process called fermentation, which produces beneficial microbes that help protect against colon cancer.

I will stick to eating Greek yogurt as opposed to any kind of oatmeal because the texture of oatmeal is something that I could never stomach. There was a time when I was a kid and was told to finish my bowl of oatmeal because it is good for you. Instead of eating it, I thought it would be a good idea to stuff in my pants pocket. I'm still traumatized by that incident to this day and have never eaten it again.
