Picco Pizza Opens Second Location in Marlborough, Doubles Size

Boston's favorite Picco Pizza will soon serve up their popular pies in Marlborough. The new location at 181 Main Street marks their first expansion outside the city, taking over a former bank building with space for twice as many diners.

The renovated space will seat 100 guests, combining intimate tables with seats at a wraparound bar. Workers are finishing up the final details, with plans to open when spring arrives in 2024.

"I'm in the happiness business. I really, with all my heart, enjoy making people happy," said Chef Tony Lawrence to Phantom Gourmet.

This is the first major expansion since Lawrence and Rachelle Cando took over in 2019. Lawrence brings almost twenty years of pizza-making expertise from the original location to this new spot.

While the South End restaurant only serves beer and wine, suburban customers will enjoy a full bar. The kitchen plans to keep things consistent though - sticking with their popular Boston menu, including their signature cold-ferment sourdough process.

Their special dough develops through three different pre-ferments. Each pizza gets grilled until perfectly charred. Sweet lovers can still enjoy their homemade ice cream and sorbets on the menu.

The suburban spot hopes to reconnect with former city residents who've moved to the suburbs. With twice the room, they'll handle corporate catering orders - filling a need in Marlborough's busy business area.

They'll keep the same hours as the Boston spot, though they might stay open later on weekends. Their original Tremont Street location, which opened in 2004, only seats 48 people.

They're aiming to finish renovations by mid-April, if all goes as planned. The new restaurant is located in the heart of downtown Marlborough's business district.
