Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Westminster is one of many ski resorts in the state, delighting in Mother Nature's weather this season. On Friday, Feb. 14, amid a bustling Presidents Day and Valentine's Day weekend, the slopes were filled with skiers and snowboarders.
Wachusett Mountain Ski Area owner Carolyn Crowley Stimpson told Boston 25 News the resort is experiencing a 10% to 15% increase in visitation this season compared to last year. Although Wachusett is still producing 130 million gallons of snow as it has in years past, what it has been producing is staying on the ground longer thanks to colder temperatures.
Wachusett has planned several activities during its February vacation week, from Monday, Feb. 17, through Sunday, Feb. 23.
Mother Nature has also been a boost for the Nashoba Valley Ski Area in Westford. Nashoba's president, Al Fletcher, told Boston 25 News, "We've made snow a lot less hours than we normally do.” Fletcher estimates visitation to Nashoba is ahead by 20% to 25% compared to last year.
According to reports from skiers and snowboarders, the difference a year makes can be experienced on the slopes, with no bare spots and minimal ice to contend with.
