Two Massachusetts Rescue Dogs Ready for Puppy Bowl XXI Matchup
Two dogs from Massachusetts will show off their skills at the 21st annual Puppy Bowl. The event plays February 9 at 2 p.m. EST on Animal Planet, where they’ll play with 140 other rescue puppies from across North America.
Two small mixed-breeds from Great Dog Rescue New England – Bark Kent and Lex Woofer – will compete on different teams. Kent joins the fuzzy players of Team Fluff, while Woofer jumps into action with Team Ruff’s energetic lineup.
This playful event brings together 142 puppies from 80 different shelters across 40 states and two countries. One standout player will earn MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) honors as their team wins the prized “Lombarky” trophy.
Want to guess who’ll win? Fans can vote in a bracket-style competition to choose the Most Pupular player. Behind all the entertainment is an important goal – helping more shelter pets find homes across the country.
The event keeps getting bigger. In 2024, 131 puppies from 73 shelters across 36 states and territories participated in the game.
Shown before the NFL championship game, Animal Planet’s furry football alternative highlights shelter pets. The show displays an incredible variety of breeds looking for permanent homes.
Twenty years have gone by since this fun program began connecting pets with new families through sports-themed entertainment. Each show helps create important links between viewers and local shelters trying to find homes for their dogs.
