Hey Guys, I Saw Wicked And Here’s My Take
I have to admit that seeing Wicked was not on my bucket list for things to do this winter, but after hearing so much hype about it from my family and co-workers, I decided it was time to check it out.
We have a co-worker who works at another radio station in the building who has seen it at the theater 7 times. She is absolutely obsessed with it and comes into our studio after every time and insists she is going to see it again and again till it’s no longer at theaters.
Okay, so that was a bit scary to me, is Wicked some kind of cult movie that people see over and over again because their brains have been hijacked by the Wizard of Oz?
My wife has seen it 3 times, twice with our daughter and now once with me. She thought that I would really enjoy it and even like one of the main stars, Ariana Grande. I have met her at my previous job when she came into plug her new album and I thought she was fine but a tad standoffish.
Then she went kind of crazy for a while dating various celebrities and one time she was busted for licking the goods at a donut shop.
So, I wasn’t racing to the movies to see her in a 2 hour and 40 minute movie.
That all changed when my young grand daughter sent us a video of her singing the finale of the movie, Defying Gravity or as she sings, “grabity”. I thought, if she loves it that much, she would want her Pop to see it.
A Wicked Surprise
With no more football games on tv I decided that Sunday afternoon was a good time to finally see it.
From the eye popping opening scenes I was taken in by the incredible set and the first music performance featuring the Munchkin Land. The song was terrific as well as the sheer joy of the performers.
We’re introduced to Ariana Grande as Gilinda the Good Witch dropping in on the Munchkins in her clear bubble floating device.
Her voice and charm are both through the roof. It’s impossible to not like her. I found myself with a big dumb smile on my face the entire time watching Wicked.
Her counter part, Elphaba played incredibly well by Cynthia Erivo is a perfect match for Gilinda or later we get to know her as Glinda.
I can go on and on about the movie, the incredible scenery and special effects, the songs, the dancing and the terrific cast, but all you need to know is this, if a guy like me who doesn’t really enjoy a lot of movie musicals likes it, you will too.
My wife was very proud of me for going to see it with her and seeing the smile on my face, and an occasional tear in the eye (true). I have to admit that it won’t be the last time I see it and I will be seeing the sequel that is coming out in the fall.
See it at the movies if you can, because it’s Wicked good!
