Stop Leaving These Things in Your Car When It’s Freezing, OK?

Freezing

Thermometer on snow shows low temperatures – zero. Low temperatures in degrees Celsius and fahrenheit. Cold winter weather – zero celsius thirty two farenheit.

It’s a Massachusetts cold snap, and we’re all walking around in so many layers we look like the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

It's FREEZING, people.

Temps are in the single digits, and yet—somehow—people keep leaving stuff in their cars that absolutely should NOT be left there. Let’s break it down.

1. Aerosol cans.
Hairspray? Air fresheners? That can of spray paint you “swear” you’re going to use for your DIY project? Leave them in a freezing car, and you’re basically inviting an explosion. Nothing says “fun winter vibes” like Aqua Net spraying the entire inside of your car. Do you know how hard it is to get hairspray off leather?

2. Canned food.
You’re not prepping for an apocalypse. Don’t leave soup or beans in the car. When they freeze, they expand. Best-case scenario? You’ve got cracked cans. Worst-case? Tiny bacteria-friendly cracks. Delicious!

3. Eggs.
You’ve just grocery-shopped and decide the eggs can “chill” in the car for a while. Nope. Frozen eggs crack, and cracked eggs mean salmonella risks. Nobody needs a side of food poisoning with their breakfast.

4. Electronics.
You’d think this is obvious, but no—people still leave phones, tablets, and laptops in freezing cars. Spoiler alert: Cold weather wrecks batteries and screens. And when your device warms up? Condensation can short-circuit it. Enjoy replacing your gadgets because you couldn’t bring them inside.

5. Medication.
Insulin, liquid antibiotics, and other meds don’t play well with the cold. Freezing can make them useless—or worse, dangerous. Check the label. Or better yet, don’t leave your life saving meds in the car next to the iced-over soda cup.

6. Loved ones.
This shouldn’t need saying, but here we are. Kids, pets, and seniors don’t belong in freezing cars, not even “for a few minutes.” A car in single-digit temps is basically a giant freezer. If you wouldn’t sit in there yourself, don’t make them.

7. Booze

The carbonated kind. I've left beer and champagne in my car during a cold snap and let's just say it smelled like I just went on a year-long bender. Explosion city.

So, be smarter, folks. Your car isn’t a storage unit. If it explodes, cracks, shorts out, or freezes solid, leave it inside where it belongs. Otherwise? You’re risking a mess—or worse.
