How Long Do We Wait For Food Before We’re Annoyed?
Would you say you’re a patient person? 71% of Americans think they are, but do the stats back it up? A study looked at how long the average person can wait for food and for various things before they start getting annoyed.
We are going out to dinner and or lunch and breakfast more than ever. Americans love to watch cooking shows on television, but prefer to let someone else do the cooking for them.
30 years ago we ate out a lot less often, perhaps as little as once a week, but now we are eating out much more often. Some people eat out more than once a day and at least 6 times a week. With that many people dining out, that means there are lots of different options for us.
With that comes busier places and of course the challenge of staffing the restaurants with servers, food preparers and hosts. Which means we are all spending more time waiting for food than ever before. It takes patience to not get antsy and a tad bit “hangry”.
Here’s the amount of time people will wait before losing their…
1. Waiting on a server to take your order? 13 minutes.
2. Waiting for your food to arrive? 17 minutes. So, add those up and we expect to be eating within 30 minutes of sitting down.
3 Other things we don’t like waiting for
3. Waiting in line at the grocery store? Over half of us will switch to a different line if we see more than three people ahead of us.
4. Food delivery? 29 minutes. So, Domino’s was onto something with their old “30 minutes or less” guarantee. (It launched in the ’70s, but they stopped doing it in the ’90s because their drivers were speeding and killing people.)
5. Waiting behind someone at a stop sign? A third of us are laying on the horn within 10 seconds. (10 seconds??? It feels like most people are honking within two. If you’re waiting more than 10, you’re a saint.)
