States With Shortest Marriages: Massachusetts?

I spent more than 25 years as a wedding d.j. having hosted more than 500 receptions I have a very good idea of what will get the floor packed. Even after all of these years, it is amazing how little the list of the best dance songs have not changed.

Songs come and go, but when it comes to the sure winners, the list is still pretty short. I started hosting wedding receptions while I was in high school and ironically some of those very songs that get people dancing then, can still work today.

Everything from The Pointer Sisters, We Are Family to Bob Segar's Old Time Rock and Roll can still be heard booming out of the speakers as sure fired dance floor jammers.

Of course the playlists of weddings have changed over the years with songs from all different genres, from Hip Hop to Country, but through it all there's only a few songs that have survived the test of time.

A recent study looked at 2,000 wedding playlists on Spotify to find the most popular songs.  If you've attended a wedding recently, there's a chance you probably heard some of these on the dance floor.

Here's the Top 10:

1.  "I Wanna Dance with Somebody",  Whitney Houston - If you want to get everyone from all generations to get out of the seats and on the floor, d.j.'s will put this song on early to get the party started.

Here are the rest of the Top 10

2.  "Dancing Queen",  ABBA, This song has been getting the ladies on the wedding dance floor since 1976

3.  "Yeah!",  Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris , Always a song to play when you want to turn up the jams since 2004

4.  "Mr. Brightside",  The Killers, A fun song to dance and sing along to since 2003

5.  "September",  Earth, Wind & Fire, This song has gotten all generations up and dancing since 1978

6.  "I Gotta Feeling",  Black Eyed Peas, This mega-dance song has been a must play since 2009

7.  "Marry You" Bruno Mars, This song was tailor made for weddings and has been heard at receptions since 2011

8.  "Crazy in Love" Beyoncé, Some say this is the best song from the decade of the 2000-2009, released in 2003 it is still a must play wedding song

9.  "Shut Up and Dance", Walk the Moon, The newest song on the list was released in 2014 and has become an instant dance floor classic

10.  "Low",  Flo Rida, Since 2007 this song has been a fun one to get the floor packed, just make sure you stretch before you get Low.

Wedding Costs In New England: Which Of The 6 States Is The Cheapest?

Are Wedding Costs In New England High?

(Editorial Note: An earlier version of this article forgot to list Maine as a state in New England. My apologies to Stephen King and his terrifying army of sewer clowns. Anna Kendrick gets no apologies as she knows what she did)

This isn’t going to surprise anyone who lives in New England, but this is one of the most expensive regions in the country to live in, and even less of a surprise is it's one of the most expensive regions to get married in. In an earlier blog, I highlighted what I consider to be the most unnecessary wedding expenses, but this time I'm focusing on how expensive even the necessary expenses are. So what makes wedding costs in New England so high?

Why Wedding Costs In New England Are So High

New England: One of the most expensive regions to get married in

Now, without further ado, here is a list of the most expensive states in America to get married in. Only two New England State aren't in the top 10. Also out of morbid curiousity I included the average cost of divorce in each state.

    10: Vermont

      9. Maryland

        8. Delaware

          7. Connecticut

            6. Washington DC

(Yeah I know it's currently not a state)

            Washington, D.C.

              5. Vermont

                4. Rhode Island

                  3. New York

                    2. Massachusetts

                      1. New Jersey

                        Ok what about Maine?

Maine actually ranks 16th most expensive at $31k. That's only $1k more than the national average. Which makes the cheapest state in New England....

                        NEW HAMPSHIRE!

Astonishingly New Hampshire ranks 20th out of all 50 states (AND WASHINGTON DC) for most expensive wedding.

Bob is a native New Englander, growing up (sorta) in Maine where his love for radio started at a young age. While in high school he hosted radio shows on a local radio station, and he has never looked back. Bob joined the US Navy and served onboard the Sixth Fleet Flagship as a radio and TV host. After serving for 3 years, it was off to Emerson College in Boston. Bob hosted shows in Boston on WMEX, WVBF and WSSH in the 80’s and 90’s before heading to radio stations in Raleigh, NC, Manchester, NH, and New York City. Bob has been married for almost 25 years to Carolyn, a Woburn gal and they have 3 daughters, Nicole, Taylor, and Bridget. Bob and Carolyn are proud first-time grandparents to baby Caroline, who they plan to spoil every chance they get! “I started my career in New England and could not be happier to come back to Boston where I can root for all the Boston sports teams and eat lots of lobster rolls and clam chowder (okay not lots)… It is an honor to host the WROR morning show with LBF and wake up the World’s Greatest City!” Bob writes about recipes and restaurants, pop culture and trending topics.
