Food Recall: Danger Lurks In Your Fridge
Food recalls are making us all crazy and now there’s more to worry about.
More products have been added to a huge meat and poultry recall, including pastas, frozen meals, wraps, and salads.
This recall, first announced last week, keeps expanding. BrucePac, an Oklahoma-based company, recalled nearly 10 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to possible Listeria contamination.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) initially listed 75 items in the recall, but that number has grown. FSIS also noted that some products might have different labels since they were distributed and processed by other companies.
The affected items in the food recall were sold at major stores like Walmart, Aldi, Costco, and Trader Joe’s. Popular frozen meals from Boston Market, Jenny Craig, and Atkins are also on the list.
What is on the new food recall list?
- Reds Grilled Chicken & Cheddar Burrito
- Costco Southwestern Style Grilled Chicken Mini Burritos
- Great Value Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo
- El Monterey Spicy Chicken Chipotle Bowl
- Jenny Craig Classic Chicken Carbonara
- Atkins Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo
- Boston Market Chicken Bacon Ranch
The full list includes even more items, complete with labels, lot codes, and use-by dates.
So far, no one has reported any illnesses from eating these products. But Listeria can cause serious infections, especially in pregnant women, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal issues.
Federal officials are worried that many affected products might still be in restaurants, stores, and consumers’ homes. If you have any of these products, don’t eat them! Throw them out or return them to the store.
