Companies Are Taking A Stand On Bathroom Breaks
Everyone at work takes bathroom breaks, if you work more than four hours a day you probably take two during that time. If you have a 9-to-5 job, then you probably take at least four. Especially these days when everybody is walking around with jugs of water always at their side.
That is not to mention the occasional need to use the bathroom facilities to poop. We all have had times when that is a necessity. Of course that means we will need more time in the bathroom.
Now there are companies that want you off the clock when you are on the toilet
Hard times for the people of Switzerland. A court just ruled they can’t hide out in the bathroom at work anymore.
The Swiss luxury watch brand Singer recently changed its policy and told workers that if they need to use the restroom, they have to clock out first.
Labor inspectors first heard about it in 2021 and told them it was illegal. They said it violated labor laws and could cause workers to, quote, “hold it in or not hydrate,” which could lead to serious health issues.
But a court just ruled it’s NOT illegal. So they’re free to go back to making people pee on their own time.
It turns out Swiss labor laws say all sorts of stuff about bathrooms and how clean they have to be. But there’s nothing about workers having the right to go while they’re being paid.
The court called it a basic need, and said lawmakers may want to think about closing the loophole.
there are a lot of things that we enjoy from Switzerland, like they’re amazing chocolate, their incredible, watch manufacturers and of course the awesome Swiss knives, but this is one export from Switzerland we can live without.
