Just how much caffeine is TOO MUCH caffeine?  According to one cardiologist, caffeine consumption is safe up to a point for most people who don't have a heart condition. Of course, most of our caffeine comes from our daily cups of coffee.

Coffee has never been more popular than it is now. There are dozens of different franchises all over the country and countless local coffee shops that are popular with their residents. On my street alone their are 5 shops in less than 2 blocks and they are always busy.

The difference these days is the sheer amount of coffee that we drink on a daily basis. It's not just the calories that we have to consider, it's also the amount of caffeine that we are drinking everyday.

When you ask someone how much caffeine they take in, most have no idea what the amount is, after all your average coffee shop doesn't come with the ingredients. It's too bad, because chances are, we taking too much caffeine in. That's not to mention all the energy drinks that people down everyday.

Caffeine and the heart

The American Heart Association and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration say that point is around three to four cups of coffee per day for most people.

Depending on the strength of your coffee, three to four cups is somewhere between 300 to 400 milligrams of caffeine.

To hit that level with other drinks, you'd need to drink one to three energy drinks . . . four to five cans of Coke . . . or 10 to 15 cups of green tea.

And some of the signs we've had too much caffeine include:  insomnia, jitteriness, heart palpitations, excessive sweating, nausea, and headaches.

For me personally, I realized just over a year ago that it was time to watch the amount of caffeine I was ingesting everyday. I was also noticing some of these very symptoms and decided to switch to decaf and keep caffeine to a minimum. Since then I have noticed a reduction in all these above mentioned conditions including lowering my blood pressure.

If you're suffering these same symptoms, I highly recommend cutting back for a while and see how you feel. I bet you will not regret it.
