Is late September too early to put your Halloween decorations up? I know at least two people that don’t think so, my wife Carolyn and my co-host LBF. For them September is too late. They’re not alone in their desire to speed up the clock and get the Halloween decorations up and out.

There is nothing wrong with getting into the spirit early if it makes you happy. Some people prefer Halloween decorations more than they do Christmas. There are people that have called our show to tell us about their Halloween tree that they put up in the same room as their Christmas tree.

Their desire to celebrate the season early shouldn’t be frowned upon and put down if it brings them joy in these less than joyful times. Plus, it’s kind of fun to see people’s imagination on display. Some are playful with their Halloween decorations with lots of harmless spooky entities hanging around the house while others go full bore on the gore.

Here’s the poll on American’s thoughts on when to put up Halloween decorations

Someone polled more than 5,000 Americans, and most said YES.  Two-thirds think decorations shouldn't go up until at least October 1st.

That includes 39% who said between the 1st and the 15th at the earliest . . . 15% who said the 16th to the 30th . . . and 3% said not until the 31st, so ON Halloween.  Another 4% wish people would NEVER put decorations up.

If your porch is already covered in cobwebs, don't worry too much.  30% think it's fine, and 6% say put decorations up as early as you want, who cares.

Just don't leave them up too long.  Around 75% of people think they should come down by the end of November at the latest.

If you come trick or treating at my house, you will not be subjected to lots of dark and scary stuff, just happy little ghosts and goblins. Oh, and super size candy too!
