Couples can argue over the simplest things, heck the entire premise of the great sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond was centered on the silliest things couples argue about. I don't recall the episode where they argued over this kitchen appliance, the ...DISHWASHER?

Yup it's true, of all the things we can argue about in the house, the winner is the dishwasher. It wouldn't take a super smart person to figure out what the fights are about. We will get into the that in a minute, but what else are fighting about when it comes to appliances?

How about when one of the partners doesn't add water to the Keurig machine leaving the other partner to always have to do this little task. That would get old after a while.

What's all the fuss about?

A vital new poll asked 38,000 Americans, "Have you ever disagreed with someone you share a dishwasher with about how it should be loaded or used?"  34% of people said YES . . . 59% of people said NO . . . and 7% aren't sure.

Specifically, 39% of people say forks and spoons should be placed facing up . . . 20% say facing down . . . and about 30% say anything goes.

7% of people say pots and pans should be placed on the top rack . . . 33% say the bottom rack . . . 12% say it doesn't matter . . . and 40% say they should be washed by hand NOT placed in the dishwasher.

Unfortunately, they didn't ask about my most common dishwasher debate:  Whether or not to pre-rinse or soak BEFORE putting stuff in the dishwasher.

The good news is, we mostly fight about how to use the dishwasher, not who is going to load and unload it. That's another story altogether for another time.

We can take comfort in knowing that generations before us who didn't have the marvelous contraption as a kitchen appliance no doubt fought about leaving dishes in the sink. Now we fight about not putting them in the dishwasher that is supposed to make our lives better.
