Are These The Top 5 Breakfast Cereals Of All Time?

 Here's something you may not have realized:  The first cold cereal was introduced in 1863 . . . meaning cereal is now around 160 years old. We still love our breakfast cereals, even though they are not as cheap as they used to be.

Not every cereal that's come out since the late-1800s has tasted good . . . and some have been disgusting.  But it's Friday, so let's focus on the good stuff.

Complex.com created a list of the 50 best breakfast cereals of all time . . . and I hope you've had your coffee, because it might inspire some debate.  But can we at least agree on the #1? 

5.  Froot Loops . . . introduced in 1963. Who among us doesn’t remember settling down on Saturday morning watching your favorite cartoons and enjoying a big bowl of Froot Loops? They’ve pretty much remained the same since they were originally put out, and why not, they are perfect as they are!

4.  Oreo O's . . . introduced in 1997. These are pretty much what you would expect them to be, small little’s Oreo cookies that are just as delicious as their big cousins. You can’t say these are the most healthy option for breakfast, but as an occasional treat, they are delicious.

3.  Cap'n Crunch Crunch Berries . . . introduced in 1967. All kids love the captain! He always seemed like such a fun guy. We love all types of Cap’n Crunch cereal, whether it is the original or peanut butter crunch. There’s something about the delicious crunch they make in your mouth that brings back childhood memories.

2.  Honey Nut Cheerios . . . introduced in 1979.  (Cheerios is #31.) The original style were a household staple, but they required either a spoonful of sugar or something else added like bananas or strawberries. When Honey Nut was introduced, you no longer need to add anything to your Cheerios because these were great as is.

1.  Cinnamon Toast Crunch . . . introduced in 1984. The cereal is still the number one because it taste exactly like it sounds, cinnamon toast that happens to crunch. They are so good. You might not even have to put them in a bowl and add milk. Plenty of people enjoy a handful of this cereal right out of the box when it comes to the ultimate compliment for a cereal, that’s has to be it.

Fun fact: there are 2.7 billion boxes — enough to wrap around the earth thirteen times — of cereal sold every year, according to the National Cereal Day website.

Breakfast cereal was an American invention that began as a digestive aid because people in the 1800s were eating too much meat and I guess that stopped things up. Ew.

Yet, cereal is, without a doubt, the best meal of the day. Now, I know what you're thinking: "What about bacon and eggs? What about pancakes and waffles?"

Too labor intensive.

You don't need to be a gourmet chef to make a bowl of cereal. All you need is a bowl, some milk, and your favorite cereal. Pour, splash, and voila! You've got a meal that's ready in under a minute.

Also, consider the versatility of a bowl of gruel. You can have it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even as a midnight snack. It's the ultimate any-time-of-day food.

And let's not forget the most important part of cereal: the milk. Milk is the perfect complement to cereal.

Toucan Sam had a REAL problem, if you ask me. In the 80s, people who "followed their nose" ended up in jail or passed out inside a stall at Studio 54. What was this bird teaching our children? And the SPELLING? Anyway, good, sugary cereal. A classic.

Perfect. This cereal has everything. Nutty Victoria Jackson, gun play and an annoying bee who is LYING TO YOU because there's nothing about this cereal that's nutritious. But I love it by the handful. No milk. Try it.
