Is The Office coming back? Do YOU want a REBOOT with Massachusetts icon Steve Carell? Just as we thought ending the writers strike was great news, now this! But is it, good news?
Should we leave well enough alone? Friends, did it right. In the Friends reunion, all agreed that the iconic show ended perfectly. On social media, some fans are not so excited about The Office, coming back.
The Office Reboot: What We Know
Many sources are reporting and speculating that a reboot is in the works, now that the writers strike seems to be resolved.
Hollywoodlife.com says:
- A reboot of the The Office is reportedly in the works-
- The original U.S. show runner, is involved with the reboot-
- Returning cast members HAVE NOT been announced-
Other sources are now quoting the original show runner. Koimoi.com reports:
(Gregg) Daniels previously said that he did not have time to make a reboot but apparently, things changed in March 2022. He later admitted that he might approach the reboot like The Mandalorian was an extension of Star Wars. “But I don’t know if that would be something people would want or not, it’s hard to tell."
I have to admit, being a fan of Carell and The Office, a reboot scares me. Other than maybe Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise, are there ANY reboots that actually worked? Did you know that there was a reboot of MacGyver? How about the reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, called, Bel Air? There's a reason we didn't know about them. They didn't work.
How WOULD a reboot of The Office work?
How does Dwight age comfortably? A young Dwight was delightfully weird and a little creepy. But the same Dwight twenty years later? Would Michael's odd management style work in 2023's the employee is everything, world? What about Pam and Jim? In the reboot would Dwight STILL be falling for Jim's clever pranks, with a cute Pam, lovingly laughing along at the front desk? Wait, she's STILL at the front desk?
In seeing the first trailers of the Frasier reboot, Kelsey Grammar seems to have aged like one of his refined character's fine wines.
With an Office reboot, I'm concerned for our pal Steve Carell. Is the Dunder Mifflin printer out of ink? I wonder for Steve, is an Office reboot in the rear view mirror?

Here's Jaybeau and Steve Carell in Marshfield!
Boston is the best city in the world. It shouldn't surprise you that some amazing television shows were set in Boston. Many of those TV shows, I bet you didn't even know were set here. They may even be shows you've watched or even loved and you had no idea. And with the Frasier reboot happening and being set here in Boston, we wanted to refresh your memory (or even enlighten you) to the TV shows that were set right here in Boston.
Let's first take a look at why Hollywood happens to have an obsession over Boston...especially lately. Well if you're talking about movies specifically, there are amazing tax incentives for shooting in the Bay State. Any film production that spends more than $50,000 in The Bay State is eligible for a 25% production credit, a 25% payroll credit, and a sales tax exemption. That alone is tempting enough to bring Hollywood here. The geography and landscape in Massachusetts seems to also be a prime asset for TV and film creators. Many also cite the history and culture in the Boston area as being what lures filmmakers in. Regardless, Boston and Massachusetts has been a target for TV shows and film settings for decades.
We're going to run down some of the best TV shows that have historically been set in Boston. Some go as far back as 1982. Now, these are not EVERY show that has been set in Boston. These are just some of the most recognizable and ones that have been fan favorites over the years. If you have any you'd like to add, please be sure to message us. In the meantime, let's take a trip down memory lane as we get ready for yet another TV show set in Boston to make its debut in October. Happy watching!
