Does Ketchup Belong In The Fridge? Heinz Has Answered
This is-not a debate about what is the best ketchup
Most times when we speak about Ketchup debates, it is always about what is the best tasting
Is it Heinz or Hunts? These are debates that never have a winner because people always have a favorite brand and they will not be dissuaded from choosing it
This debate has also been argued for as long as ketchup and refrigerators have coexisted. Which is probably over a century or so by now.
Fridge it or Shelf it?
People online can’t agree on where to store open bottles of ketchup. Do you keep yours in the fridge, or just leave it out at room temperature?
You can understand why the argument has persisted for years. When you go to a diner or a restaurant or even a fast food joint you’ll notice the ketchup is not refrigerated. It is usually left on the table or on the condiment table. Perhaps the ketchup comes in handy squeezable packs that once again are not refrigerated
Classic, Mayo-Chup, spicy
Heinz has weighed in!
Heinz’s U.K. division started a Twitter Where do you keep yours? It has to be… in the fridge!
— Heinz (@HeinzUK) June 28, 2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">poll to see where people stand. Last we checked, only 55% said they refrigerate their ketchup. But that’s mainly Brits voting. It’s not clear if that holds true here too.
Some people apparently hate COLD ketchup. And the main argument for not refrigerating is restaurants just leave it sitting out. So do you really have to?
The ketchup at restaurants gets used up pretty fast though. So it’s probably not sitting out for months on end. And according to Heinz, your fridge IS the best place for it.
The answer is?
Heinz UK FYI: Ketchup. goes. in. the. fridge!!!
— Heinz (@HeinzUK) June 27, 2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted on Twitter and said, “FYI: Ketchup goes in the FRIDGE!!” A spokesperson for Heinz added that is the “best way to maintain” its taste.
So there you have it according to the folks at Hines, and they do know a lot about catch up after all they perfected it to start and where the first to mass market and produce catch up. Still if you choose to leave it on the shelf you will be fine but if you want your catch-up to be the best it can be, keep it in the fridge.
It is barbecue season and I’m sure catch-up will be a big part of that, so stock up and keep a space in your refrigerator for your favorite brand.
