Sammy Hagar is many things, but it’s, perhaps, his honesty that’s among his most admirable traits.

The Red Rocker recently appeared on Wild Ride! with Steve-O when the topic of David Lee Roth was broached. He talked about how the two former Van Halen frontmen tried to embark on a 2002 tour together. Of course, that whole ordeal did not pan out well at all, particularly when it came to the two of them offstage.

“I thought he’d be a fun guy to know, but he ain’t like that,” says Hagar. “He ain’t like his persona. When you get around him, he ain’t that guy. He’s some other cat.”

As for Roth’s singing, Hagar didn’t hold back at all saying, “He’s a showman. Hey, listen, I’m a showman too. But that’s his gig. He doesn’t care about singing.”

He continued, “If he did, he’d take care of his voice or he’d take voice lessons and get warmed up and do something. ‘Cause the guy sang so bad last time he was doing shows, it was embarrassing.”

As if that weren’t enough, Hagar upped the blunt honestly ante. He added, ” … He doesn’t care about his voice, which drives me nuts, man. I care more about my voice than I do my d-ck. If my d-ck didn’t work a couple of times, I’d be okay with it — I’d be bummed out — but if my voice f-cks up onstage, I’m f-cking bummed, man.”

…And there you have it. If you’ve ever questioned Hagar’s dedication to his craft, keep the thought of him caring about his voice more than his nethers top of mind.
