Massachusetts Grandpa Fat Shames 10 Year Old, Refuses to Apologize. Was He Wrong?

Cute teenage girl eating ice-cream in the street
OK, truth be told, using the word “chubby” to describe someone, especially a young child or grandchild, can be harmful and hurtful. While it may seem like a harmless term, it can contribute to body shaming and negative self-image, which can have long-lasting effects on a person’s mental health.
But apparently, Max disagrees.
Here’s what Max had to say:
So, I got myself in trouble this past weekend with my daughter. And I need your help to get me out of it.
I took my two granddaughters out for ice cream this Sunday. And just to explain they are 10 and seven. The 10-year-olds is on the heavy side and the 7-year-old is very skinny and ordered a big sundae.
The 10-year-old wanted to order a large one too, but I said that she should probably get the kiddy size because she’s getting a bit chubby
Of course, she wasn’t happy with it, but I feel as her grandfather that if nobody else is telling her the truth, then it should be up to me.
After I dropped them off at their house, my daughter called extremely upset, saying that the 10-year-old said that I called her fat.
I never said that I just said chubby.
But the truth is, she is fat and needs to lose weight. Nobody wants to say anything so now I am the bad grandpa for telling the truth.
My daughter told me to stay away until I come and apologize.
I have no intention of apologizing because I love my granddaughter and I want her to face the truth now and to start getting healthy.
So what do you think? Was he just being honest? Or cruel? And was there a better way to say it?
Take a listen to the Massachusetts grandpa who fat shames 10 year old, refuses to apologize. Was he wrong?
