MassDOT Suspends Construction for Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend
We’ve got a lot to be thankful for, Thanksgiving holiday traffic isn’t on the list, but MassDOT just did everyone a solid and has stopped all road construction statewide for the holiday weekend.
Starting Tuesday morning, and going until 9pm on Monday, November 29th, road crews are officially off duty in the Bay State.
Over on the Southeast Expressway (I-93), the HOV zipper lane is extending its hours heading southbound out of Boston: 2pm-7pm on Tuesday, and 1pm-7pm on Wednesday. The zipper lane will be closed Thursday and Friday.
Officials say that they expect even more volume on the roads this year as post-pandemic traffic increases.
“The Thanksgiving holiday period will be a very busy travel time so members of the public should plan ahead, travel off-peak hours, and consider taking public transportation,” said Transportation Secretary Jamey Tesler.
“We want everyone to reach their destinations safely and that means travel at or below the speed limit, drive sober, limit distractions, and be patient knowing that when roadways and public transportation are crowded, trips will simply take longer.”
