Attention all ketchup lovers: if you’re someone who “puts ketchup on your ketchup,” that might be difficult to do now.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants have had to step out their takeout game causing a demand in individual condiment packets. According to The Wall Street Journal, packet prices have increased by 13% since 2020. Denver restaurant owner Chris Fuselier stated,
“We’ve been hunting high and low, struggling to keep ketchup in stock for much of this year.”
Takeout and fast-food restaurants have always handed out disposable packets. Sit-down restaurants traditionally have a bottle placed on the table. Kraft Heinz simply couldn’t keep up with the orders and are planning to open two new manufacturing lines in April.
This will hopefully increase the production and everyone can go back to dipping their fries and other favorite foods!
