New Version Of American Pie?
When I heard about an updated version of the Don McLean classic American Pie, I tapped the breaks…
Fifty years ago this year, a new eight minute song blasted on radio’s around the world. It was Don McLean’s musical story sharing his thoughts on the February 3, 1959 plane crash taking the lives of 50’s music stars, The Big Bopper, Richie Valens and Buddy Holly. The crash shocked the world inspiring McLean to write American Pie, creating the now legendary lyric The Day The Music Died.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary McLean teamed up with acapella group Home Free to recreate and re-record the smash hit. When I heard about the updated version, I tapped the breaks saying to myself, “why fix something that’s not broken?”
But with the past twelve months we’ve had, stuff that’s old, seems refreshingly new again. You be the judge on if this February version will make you shiver, or deliver a warmed heart.
