Rush has a lot of fans, but few have brought that fandom to the world as enthusiastically as Paul Rudd. Of course, Rudd and Jason Segal played a pair of Rush loving buddies in the 2009 film I Love You, Man  and a Rush concert was a pivotal scene in the film. But they later reprised their roles for a Funny Or Die video that featured the “holy trinity” of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart (the band also used that video at their own concerts).

Rudd and Segel both appeared in a video that Rush used on their final tour, lipsynching via video to the rap segment of “Roll The Bones.” Earlier this year, after Neil Peart’s tragic passing, they both spoke to Rolling Stone about the man. Rudd didn’t just play a fan: he brought his love for the band into his work.

Earlier tonight, in a Zoom call that served as a fundraiser for the Biden/Harris campaign, Rudd — who plays Ant-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — appeared alongside Chris Evans (Captain America), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Zoe Saladana (Gamora from Guardians of the Galaxy), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Infinity War/Endgame directors Anthony Russo and Joseph Russo. Rudd  was asked what his favorite Rush song is, and what would Ant-Man’s be? He said that Scott (Ant-Man) Lang would chose “Subdivisions” (because ants are “sub-divided” into three sections — the head, thorax and abdomen). But Rudd’s personal favorite? “Red Barchetta.” Can he “slap the bass” along to the song on his “double-neck?” That might be a question for another Zoom.
