Van Halen was heavily rumored to do a major stadium tour in 2019 reuniting with bassist Michael Anthony, and their manager Irving Azoff confirmed that tour was, in fact, in the works.

In a new interview with Pollstar, Azoff said, “We had lots of stops and starts, but there was every intention of doing a summer stadium tour (in 2019), and as the cancer moved around, [Eddie Van Halen] was physically unable to do it…There is no doubt in my mind that it would have been massive.”

Azoff mentioned the tour would’ve boasted different special guests at each stop, including Foo Fighters and Metallica.

This is the latest update to emerge about that rumored tour since Eddie Van Halen’s death on October 6 from cancer.

Rumblings of the tour first started following an interview David Lee Roth did with Vulture in December 2018. Roth told the outlet, “…You know, next time my rock band will be playing the same place that the Yankees play.”  When pressed for more details on playing Yankee Stadium, DLR initially said he “can’t say,” but he ended up saying, “Well, I don’t know how far this privacy actually goes. But the band is solvent. And I can say that I contacted colleagues about being part of the show — Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Jason Aldean, the Foo Fighters, [Eric] Church, and [Chris] Stapleton. And they all said that, if everything happens, they would certainly be involved.”

Months later in April 2019, Anthony said in an interview, “I was actually contacted by their management last October, to see if I would be interested in something. And that’s basically as far as it went. I think they were trying to put something together on their end, management was, and something broke down on their end and the plug got pulled.”
