When I first saw this trailer for the new Mr. Rogers movie staring Tom Hanks as the iconic daytime TV star, for a second my cynical, smart ass-sense of humor-brain kicked in saying to myself: this likes like the beginning of an SNL skit. Hanks actually sings the opening theme.
But within seconds, the wholesomeness side, that side I think we all are longing for, took over and immediately, I was pulled in to the greatness of Fred Rogers and what he did for children each day.
If you look at pop culture these days, there’s a longing for more of the wholesome times of our past. What’s old is new again. Look at 80’s driven Stranger Things, the success of the Marvel Comics movies, and the return of shows like Fuller House.
I’m not sure if this movie will connect, but I hope it does.
