Back On Two Feet, FINALLY!
It’s been been 89 days since I broke my right ankle and the lower part of my leg, the tibia and fibula and had a fracture of the talus, the part of the ankle where the heel is. Well, after almost 13 weeks I’m back on two feet!
Last week, I went to the doctor and he looked at my newest set of X-Rays and said the bones were healing well and I was ready for partial weight bearing. Up until last week, I couldn’t put any weight on my right foot. So I began physical therapy and the process of starting to walk again. The therapist said that I’m really treating my foot and leg because it has been inactive so long. The quad and calf muscles atrophy and need to be strengthened again.
So, I’ve been to three PT appointments and I’m making progress. I can put 25-50 percent of my weight on my foot and leg and I’m ready to start walking with crutches and my protective boot. Hopefully, I will be driving by Christmas, which would be a wonderful gift to my family and friends who’ve been driving me everywhere!
