How Did The Red Sox Get Pearce, Eovaldi?
I admit that earlier this morning I went online to look up how the Red Sox obtained Steve Pearce, the World Series MVP and pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who pitched 6 innings in relief in the 18 inning loss. I couldn’t remember. I did know that Pearce hit three home runs in one game against the Yankees and Eovaldi used to play for the Yankees.
When the Red Sox acquired Steve Pearce, the Blue Jays paid down his salary so Boston owed just $1.5M for the remainder of the season. To get him, the Sox gave up Santiago Espinal, a AA second baseman who will turn 24 this winter. Perhaps the single best trade of the 2018 season.
