As you know, I broke my tibia and fibula two weeks ago. The tibia is the shin bone and it broke at the ankle joint. The fibula is the smaller bone on the outside of the leg. Want to see my scar?
SO, I had to have surgery to put my ankle back together, clear out the shattered pieces and secure the bones. I had it done last Monday and what an experience. It’s kind of a “blind” injury because you can’t see it except for on the X Rays. The scar? That reveal happened last Tuesday when the doctor came to take a look at it.
I was a bit taken aback by the size of it. But, the great doctor was able to use one incision to fix both broken bones, complete with two plates and 14 screws. Hello Home Depot! :):)
The medical term for my condition is an “Intra Articular Pilon Fracture” The “pilon” comes from the French world pestle, as in mortar and pestle….you know, break things up! Kind of funny, but a little too literal! 🙂
