It's August 9, which means I'm almost wrapping up my summer reading list.
Thankfully, I am a full-fledged adult, which means I can pick my own books - light, fluffy, scary, serious - whatever I want.
I do not miss those days of SLOGGING through "The Grapes of Wrath" when all I really wanted to read was "Sweet Valley High."
(OK, who is kidding who here. I never read "The Grapes of Wrath." CliffsNotes, people. CliffsNotes.)
So here's what I've read so far:
"The Light Between Us" by Katie Khan.
I read this in early June. I really liked it. Fast, fun, and breezy. Except I remember NONE OF IT.
Like zero. I think a weird sex scene stands out, but I was also watching "The Sinner" Season One on TV so I might have them confused. Does this happen to you? A whole book read and NONE of it retained.

Then I read "Love, Warrior" by Glennon Doyle.
This one was a doozy. Doyle is a blogger whose claim to fame is being a VERY HONEST recovering addict in a loving marriage with three kids.
UNTIL SHE FINDS OUT HER HUSBAND IS ADDICTED TO INTERNET PORN and has been cheating on her for years.
It's a fascinating, insightful read. She's brutally honest and likable. And she's very fair to her husband, too. It's an incredible journey and I loved the book. LOTS to underline here.

After that doozy of a read, I picked up "The Wife" by Meg Wolizter. Brilliant! It's about the wife of a famous author who has been keeping a secret. It's a sardonic, captivating read. I was riveted. Also, the movie version is out next month starring Glenn Close.

And finally, I decided to read Wolitzer's newest novel "The Female Persuasion". Her latest is about a college student who meets a famous feminist, which ultimately changes the course of her life. I'm halfway through. I'm still reading it while I'm NOT on vacation, stealing moments to get in a chapter or two. Which, by my standards, means it's excellent and fun and worth the $14.99 download.

What are you reading this summer? Hopefully not "The Grapes of Wrath"!
