Gil Santos, the legendary New England Patriots radio play-by-play voice, died yesterday on his 80th birthday and his 57th wedding anniversary. For 36 years Santos was the radio soundtrack for Patriots fans, teaming up with Gino Cappelletti.

He was there for the tough years in the 70's and 80's, continued with their resurgence in the 90's and, finally, called the Patriots' Super Bowl victory over the St. Louis Rams in 2002. He retired after the 2012 season and was inducted into the Patriots' Hall of Fame.
