For the first time since 1985, the women’s winner of the Boston Marathon is American. Desi Linden, running her 7th Boston, was the first woman to break the tape at the finish line in Copley Square in 2:39:54. The two time Olympian finished second in 2011.

Her most significant achievement, however, may have been the sportswomanship she showed to fellow American Shalane Flanagan of Marblehead.
