You may not know his name, but you know his work. As Charles Emerson Winchester III, David Ogden Stiers took snobbery to an art form on M*A*S*H*.

His portrayal of the high-brow Harvard trained surgeon shipped to a near-the-line mobile army surgical hospital after offending a superior officer, Stiers played the perfect foil to Alan Alda's Hawkeye Pierce, and Mike Farrell's B.J. Hunnicutt. He was a two-time Emmy nominee for his role in M*A*S*H.

If that's not enough, Stiers dazzled a whole new audience as the talking and singing voice of the animated Disney smash movie Beauty and the Beast. David Ogden Stiers passed away Saturday at the age of 75. He was one of my favorite characters on M*A*S*H*.

Here's a sample Stiers brilliant snobbery on M.A.S.H.
