Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s “I Have A Dream” Speech,- Hank
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. would have been 89 years old today. He was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia and went on to become the leader of the civil rights movement. He was assassinated by James Earl Ray on April 4, 1968 outside the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, nearly 50 years ago.
On August 28, 1963, Dr. King gave what has become an iconic speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., imploring the nation to end racism and give everyone civil and economic rights.
Below, is what has become known as Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech:
Dr. King met his future wife, Coretta Scott, in 1952, while he was studying for his graduate degree at Boston University. At the time, Ms. Scott was a student at The New England Conservatory in Boston. The two married on June 18, 1953 on the lawn of her parents’ home in Marion, Alabama.
