This was my Dad, on his horse, Chief O'Keefe. It was around 1955.
As a kid, growing up with this guy was like having a real cowboy in our house. He was an outdoors man, that could ride horses, fish, drive trucks and boats. He was the toughest, yet most gentle man, I knew. While I thought I was his favorite, in later years I found out my brothers and sister felt the same about THEM. Ask my cousins. They thought THEY were his favorite. He had this uncanny ability to create a special, unique relationship with EVERYONE, especially his wife, my Mom. (I think SHE was HIS favorite.)
Dad sold his horse right before he married my Mom, so he could be there for his new family. But, he would take me to visit Chief when I was very young.
For our third anniversary, my amazing wife Heidi gave me the best surprise gift: horseback riding at The Cornerstone Ranch in Princeton as a reminder of my hero. She even brought my Dad's original cowboy hat for the photo. How lucky am I?
The folks at Cornerstone Ranch are amazing! If you want a wonderful day in nature with these beautiful animals, I recommend you try it.
Take a look at our great day.
