Weird Al Yankovic has been hilariously altering our favorite songs for decades. The parody comedian continues to bring a new light to pop classics to this day. In honor of his birthday (October 23rd), here are 10 of our favorite Weird Al songs.

“Fat”

The album was produced by former The McCoys guitarist, Rick Derringer. The music on Even Worse is built around parodies and pastiches of pop and rock music of the mid-1980s.

Based off the Michael Jackson’s “Bad”, the music video for this song featured an ever-growing fat suit.

 

“Amish Paradise”

This was the single off of his Bad Hair Day album. Apparently, in a 2014 Reddit AMA Weird Al sated Coolio wasn’t upset anymore about the video.

 

“The Saga Begins”

We have to admit, whenever we hear Don McLean’s “American Pie”, we start singing this tune. It’s just too good!

 

“Like a Surgeon”

According to Mental Floss, this tune was Madonna’s idea. One of his friends was a mutual pal of the Material Girl’s manager who asked her to pitch parody ideas.

 

“Gump”

After frontman for the Presidents of the United States saw this music video, he wanted Weird Al to direct a video for their song “Mixed Up S.O.B.”

 

“Another One Rides the Bus”

According to this video, this was from Al’s first-ever national TV appearance. He was still so funny, even in the beginning of his career.

 

“Tacky”

This music video was filmed all in one shot and featured a variety of celebrity appearances.

 

“Eat It”

This song earned him a Grammy Award for Best Comedy Recording in 1984. It was much deserved!

 

“Smells Like Nirvana”

While Nirvana was performing on Saturday Night Live, Weird Al asked his friend Victoria Jackson to get Kurt Cobain on the phone says Spin. She did, and he approved the parody lyrics.

 

“Word Crimes”

This tune is another one off his latest album, Mandatory Fun. Students, turn this up in your headphones, maybe you’ll learn something new!
