Today around 3:30 PM the celebrity website TMZ reported that Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday as he was discovered in full cardiac arrest. At approximately 4:25 pm CBS News using it’s Twitter account was reported that based on an L.A.P.D source Tom Petty had in fact passed away. At 5 pm, CBS retracted that story saying the L.A.P.D. could not confirm that Tom had passed away and is “clinging to life.” Entertainment Weekly says via their Twitter that “his condition is unclear at this time.”

LAPD clarifies it cannot confirm Tom Petty's death

Tom Petty, the rocker best known as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, is clinging to life in a Los Angeles hospital, according to TMZ. An earlier LAPD report which confirmed the singer's death, and which CBS reported, has since been clarified.
