OK, so we were on vacation last week. Here was the plan: go to NYC, crash at my brother's place and see "Dear Evan Hansen" with Ben Platt.

I scored ONE ticket through a connection and was going to see him Tuesday night. That Saturday before, we  headed to the Cape to see friends down in West Dennis. Great town, great beach, great fun.

Monday morning we were up and on our way to the Big Apple when....I got an email saying Ben Platt was not going to be in the show Tuesday night and if I didn't want the ticket to let them know.

Dreams were dashed and we were almost to the bridge to head home when I said to Dave: "It's such a beautiful day and all that's waiting for us at home is laundry and a bunch of crap to organize. Maybe we should find a place to stay."

Dave LOVES hotels, so he was game. I checked my Hotels Tonight app and saw a few places. But then I called my friend who said: "Call the local line to the Mansion at Ocean Edge. It's Monday. Tell them your story and maybe you can get a good rate!"

So I did. I talked to Tracey in reservations who was SUPER nice and got us a GREAT rate because normally that place is, like, Beyonce money.

We settled in for lunch at the beach bar, hit the outdoor pool and then the beach, where, GET THIS: They have staff who provide you with beach chairs, towels, AND BEACHSIDE DRINK SERVICE.

Best. Detour. Ever!

The next day were stuffed, tired and broke, but it was a SUPER little side trip we won't soon forget!
