WATCH: The Best VMA Opening Ever
LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 15: A 1994 MTV Video Music Award presented to Robbie Williams engraved "European Viewers Choice Winner, Robbie Williams Take That, "Babe" is seen at the press review before the auction of Robbie Williams memorabilia in aid of the Donna Louise Children's Hospice at Bonhams on July 15, 2015 in London, England.
There have been a number of MTV VMA retrospectives this past week since the 2017 installment of the award show is set to air tonight (August 27), and we thought we’d look back at the greatest opening moment from the show’s history.
Long before the Internet spoiled everything, Paul Reubens (aka: Pee-Wee Herman) made a surprise appearance by opening the show, his first public appearance after being arrested for masturbating in an adult theater just two months prior.
…And then, he dropped the line of lines.
Coincidently, today is also Reubens’ birthday. We couldn’t have planned the timing better if we tried!
