Hear: I Got To Talk To Yardbirds Drummer Jim McCarty!! - Julie Devereaux

O.M.G. Legends. Seriously. The f'n Yardbirds. Before Eric Clapton was "'God", he was in the Yardbirds. Before Jeff Beck was friggin' JEFF BECK, he was in the Yardbirds. Before JIMMY PAGE walked on guitar driven water, he was in the Yardbirds. For me, this was a big deal.

Jim McCarty is the drummer on all those Yardbirds songs I LOVED growing up (and still do!). I wanted to ask him about every song they ever did, how they wrote the songs with each different guitarist, who else they played with, how they came to record at Chess Studios in Chicago, what his first impression of the US was but time was of the essence...and I'm sure it'll all be in his new autobiography.

They're playing up at The Cabot in Beverly Thursday, October 13th. Well worth seeing.

Here's what I did ask him:

This might be my favorite Yardbirds tune.

The Yardbirds- Over, Under, Sideways, Down

Yardbirds are one of my favorite bands because i really love the style that they play and I appreciate the hell out of Blues/Rock n' Roll.

I gotta get my stereo hooked up at home so I can blast these.

Yardbirds - For Your Love

Title: For Your Love (track 01) Artist: Yardbirds Album: For Your Love Year: 1965 Label: Epic Writer(s): Graham Gouldman Lyrics: For your love. For your love. For your love. I'd give you everything and more, and that's for sure. For your love. I'd bring you diamond rings and things right to your door.

And from there, Jim McCarty and Yardbirds frontman Keith Relf went in this direction. Do you remember this song by Renaissance?
