The all-star Experience Hendrix Tour returns to the road in early 2016, bringing with it the usual cadre of guitar virtuosos including Buddy Guy, Dweezil Zappa, Black Label Society and Ozzy Osbourne axeman Zakk Wylde, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Eric Johnson, Jonny Lang and more to be announced.
Bassist Billy Cox, who played in the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Hendrix's Band of Gypsies, will also be part of the tour, which kicks off February 24 in Hollywood, Fla., and plays 27 dates before wrapping up March 25 in Hampton Beach, N.H. The lineup also includes drummer Chris Layton from Steve Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Shepherd singer Noah Hunt and Mato Naji of Indigenous, while Doyle Bramhall II and Keb' Mo' are among the special guests who will drop in at various points of the tour.
In a statement, Guy -- who's taking part in his sixth Experience Hendrix Tour -- says that, "Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest guitar players ever and we all need to keep his music alive," while Zappa, a three-time tour participant, adds, "My dad told me some stories about playing with (Hendrix). Jimi's ability to express himself so completely with an electric guitar is very inspiring to me. There was an authentic expression of his personality in the music. And that rings true in every generation. He wasn't following trends. His playing was soulful and exciting and surprising."
